Gashtray Sculpting Workshop
23rd November 2019
This sell out-event was a hive of positivity! Starting with the sex ed you didn't get at school, Becky Lund-Harket gave a stigma-free guide to vulval anatomy and debunked some commonly held misconceptions about sex and genitals. We talked about the clitoris, vaginal tenting and where and what the G Spot is! As always, there were great questions and contributions for the audience including some very welcome schooling on the contraceptive pill from one brilliant guest.
Hani then took to the floor to guide an amazing Gashtrays tutorial. Guests bashed, pounded and whacked their clay into shape before creating some truly beautiful pieces. There was plenty of time to work on perfecting the Gashtrays as well as time and clay enough to make other ceramic pieces. We saw penises, pots and snails being made and such a lot of chatter while Hani and Becky helped with ceramic techniques and answered questions about erections, porn and whether you should bother to buy FemFresh products (the answer is no!).
While guests added the finishing touches to their works Hani and Becky started to draw winners of the raffle. With fantastic prizes from YES Organics Lubrication, Jo Divine, Hanx, Outspoken Books, Laura Dodsworth and many more we raised over £155 for The Survivors Trust, a fantastic charity which provides resources and support for people who have survived sexual assault and abuse.
We hope that by holding these positive, fun and informative events we can create a safe space for people to engage in inclusive sex education and debate, helping to unlearn some the stigma-filled and myth-laden ways we speak about sex and bodies and created a more healthy dialogue.

It's My Pleasure
21st September 2019
On a sunny afternoon at The Star by Hackney Downs, It's My Pleasure started off with a clitoris model making workshop with Becky Lund-Harket (sex educator and Founder of The Candid Collective). Becky discussed the role of the clitoris for sexual pleasure, the anatomy of the vulva and why knowing about the clitoris is important. Using easy-to-use and colourful modelling clay we made beautiful clitoris fridge magnets, all the while having a lesson in 'cliteracy’.
We then welcomed the award-winning playwright and comedian Fran Bushe. Fran’s recent 5* show ‘Ad Libido’ took a comical look at how she has been trying to ‘fix sex’ throughout her twenties. In this rather more intimate and candid talk, Fran discussed her relationship with sex, pleasure and displeasure. Fran's heartwarming and funny teenage diary entries made us giggle and it was easy to relate when Fran spoke about her sex life not living up to her expectations and sex sometimes feeling more like a 'damp party popper' than the fireworks we see in mass media.
We discussed whether virginity is a social construct, why we count penetration as 'sex' and everything else as 'foreplay' and wrote notes to our 16 year old selves about how sex will change over time.

Bare Reality with Laura Dodsworth
11th July 2019
Laura Dodsworth is a photographer, artist and storyteller. Over the last five years, she has photographed and interviewed 300 people about their breasts, penises and vulvas, for her projects Bare Reality, Manhood and Womanhood. By turning her lens on physical taboos, she catalyses a ground-breaking conversation into social taboos and offers a deeply personal perspective on our most private, painful and pleasurable stories. Laura and her project Womanhood were the subject of a Channel 4 film 100 Vaginas, described by the Financial Times as a “cultural talking point”.
During her talk for us Laura spoke publicly for the first time about the personal journey which led her to creating the Bare Reality series as well as discussing the connection between creativity and sexuality. Due to the intimate setting and wonderful Candid Collective audience, Laura said she felt comfortable sharing more personal stories about her own sex life and how her self-perception changed as the projects progressed and she garnered power and strength from the amazing people she interviewed.
She spoke about shame and how the people she interviewed of all genders often thought they are 'not enough' or 'too much'. Laura talked about how this shame impacts your life and sexuality as 'you cannot achieve true sexual pleasure until you are happy with yourself'.

The Benefits of Nakedness
20th April 2019
On this wonderfully sunny bank holiday weekend we celebrated bodies and nakedness with an academic talk about The Benefits of Nakedness followed by a life drawing class with a difference!
Dr Keon West, Reader of Psychology at Goldsmiths University, delivered an engaging lecture about his research on the mental health benefits of nakedness; research which finds that being naked in front of non-intimate others has a positive impact on self-esteem, body image and life satisfaction. Keon's work is the basis of Channel 4's current TV series 'Naked Beach'. After his talk, Keon answered questions regarding cultural differences in attitudes to nakedness, why 'nakedness' not 'nudity', and whether Brits are really as prudish as we all think.
After a short break, Body Love Sketch Club took centre stage. Body Love Sketch Club is a life drawing class like no other - where you both draw and are drawn. Firstly, Ruby and Rosy took in turns to facilitate and model while talking about what life modelling means to them and how they are just happier naked! Students were then then split into small groups of 4-5 people depending on how naked / clothed they wanted to be while posing for the rest of the group. There was real mix to how people chose to model with some groups staying completely clothed and some getting completely naked. Each person then posed for seven minutes while the rest of their small group drew them. While this was a fun and joyful workshop it also struck a much deeper cord with some students it was "an act of taking control" and not "giving in to shame".
This event centred about the relationship with have with our bodies. A recent study by YouGov found that over a third of people in the UK are unhappy with their body image with the survey highlighting 'celebratory culture' as a contributing factor. The aim of The Benefits of Nakedness was to appreciate 'normal' bodies in an educational, creative and positive way!

Hitting the Spot: A Curated Guide to Sex Toys
14th March 2019
After seeing the recent research which suggests that positive effects of sex toy use include greater sexual pleasure, sexual satisfaction and safer sex we decided to bring in our favourite online sex toy company Jo Divine to tell us all about it.
As this relaxed event, Samantha and Paul Evans (Founders of Jo Divine) gave advice on a wide range of products highlighting the pros and cons of each and concentrating on what each would add to your sex life (solo or partnered). Their extensive knowledge on sexual health as well as sexual pleasure really showed and Sam spoke about erectile disfunction, the impact of anti-depressants and viagra on sexual function as well as the changes that vulvas and vaginas may go through throughout our lives how to adapt to those.
For those who are wondering, Rocks-Off Everygirl Rabbit and Satisfyer Pro 2 were best sellers.

Be Body Positive
2nd Feb 2019
This sell-out event was a fun afternoon dedicated to body positivity and acceptance with life drawing and genital model making. Pow pow!
Kicking off with a talk about body acceptance and fighting against diet culture, the wonderful Becky Young (Founder of Anti Diet Riot Club) delved into how radical it feels to love your own body in a society which tells you that you shouldn’t. Guests spoke about the way diet culture had snuck into their lives, the impact that has had and were invited to write love letters to their bodies which they'll receive in the post in the coming months.
Next the was a joyful life drawing workshop from the fabulous Body Love Sketch Club. Ruby and Porsche mixed it up by both modelling and leading the class, all the while discussing what nakedness and body acceptance means to them. The class took the idea of having a passive life model and really turned it on its head.
To finish the day, Becky Lund-Harket (sex educator and Founder of The Candid Collective) led a genital model making workshop. Throughout this fun and interactive workshop Becky talked about some of the ways that genitals are pretty amazing as well as encouraging guests to love and accept their genitals in all their glory.

"I went thinking I'd enjoy the creative activities and have a bit of a laugh but I came away feeling something in myself had shifted. Something about seeing normal natural bodies and thinking they looked beautiful and not feeling critical of them made me wonder why I would criticise myself."
